When connecting to WebCit, the message "This program was unable to connect or stay connected to the Citadel server. Please report this problem to your system administrator" appears.

WebCit provides a web-based user interface to the Citadel Server. If WebCit cannot contact a running Citadel Server, this error message will appear. This could happen for several reasons:

citserver is not running, either because it never started at all or because it crashed
WebCit is searching for Citadel Server in a directory other than the one for which it was configured

Beginning in 2022 (version 943) WebCit must run on the same host as Citadel Server.
